Difference between Healthy Skin and Skin with Cellulite
What exactly is cellulite? As fat cells increase in size, they push up against our skin while fibrous cords attached to our skin surface pull down, thus creating an uneven surface or dimpling, often referred to as cellulite. Cellulite is a harmless skin condition that causes lumpy, dimpled flesh on the thighs, hips, buttocks and abdomen.

If the fat is painful or painful lumps develop see your doctor as these may be signs that there may be a more serious underlying disorder.

Do not confuse cellulite with cellulitis

Cellulitis is a bacterial skin infection that can cause redness, swelling, and pain in the infected area of the skin. If left untreated, it may spread and potentially lead to more serious health problems. Good wound care and hygiene are important for preventing cellulitis. SEE YOUR DOCTOR if you think you have cellulitis.

What is the main cause of cellulite?

Cellulite is more common thank you may think and is simply caused by a buildup of fat underneath the skin. Some women are more predisposed to it than others. The amount of cellulite you have and how noticeable it is can be based on your genes, body fat percentage, and age. The thickness of your skin also affects the appearance of cellulite.

According to the Mayo Clinic, little is known about what causes cellulite. It involves fibrous connective cords that tether the skin to the underlying muscle, with the fat lying between. As fat cells accumulate, they push up against the skin, while the long, tough cords pull down. This creates an uneven surface or dimpling.

In addition, hormonal factors play a large role in the development of cellulite, and genetics determine skin structure, skin texture and body type. Other factors, such as weight and muscle tone affect whether you have cellulite, though even very fit people can have it.

Can you get rid of cellulite? My online search says no - You cannot get rid of cellulite from exercise alone. Though, losing body fat and gaining muscle mass may help to reduce the appearance. This same search does however offer a variety of solutions and even shows how many celebrities have had success and how.

Improvements CAN be made to the appearance of cellulite

In my experience I've seen tremendous success with clients time and time again - I’ve also seen it return when lifestyle plummets. Best long term results include attention to nutrition and consistent activity. A vibration plate just happens to make the activity part a little easier and is kinder on the body while exercising with the bonus of many feel good benefits.

It’s challenging to try to “spot treat” or target cellulite in one area effectively. Strengthening muscles can certainly help but the fat needs to be lost to see the muscle…. stressing the above point that “the best long term results include nutrition and activity.”

Best Vibration Plate Exercises for Cellulite

Squats & Lunges - Firing up these large muscle groups is the best way to burn calories and boost the metabolism while toning those trouble areas.

Step Ups - Adding slow dynamic movement will help boost aerobic function and also helps engage those big muscle groups. An exercise step platform is a great way to get your step-ups in!

Bridges - Great for toning glutes and quads while improving core strength
Planks - Also ideal for toning core & burning calories while gaining upper body strength and more overall toning.

Massage - If range of motion allows, applying trouble areas directly to the plate surface improves skin tone boosting circulation and recovery. Sit on it, lay your thighs and lower tummy even your calves on it. There are a number of ways you can target anywhere below the waist.
